Anonymous hubs

Introduction

You can use GhostSurf's anonymous hubs system to route your web information around the world through anonymous computers. This protects you from being tracked by your ISP and, in some cases, by the websites you visit. There are benefits and drawbacks to using anonymous hubs; you may wish to read the How Anonymous Hubs Work article before you decide how to use them.

Getting Hubs

The first step in setting up anonymous hubs is to download a list of them from the Internet. GhostSurf is set up to do this automatically; just clock the "Download hubs from the web" button. The hubs list in the Anonymous hubs window will then populate itself.

Alternatively, you can enter your own hubs manually using the "Add hub manually" button. For each hub, you must know its IP address and port number.

Choosing a Hub

You can choose the hub through which your traffic will be sent by selecting it in the hubs list. There is no security difference between hubs, but there may be a strong speed difference. Some hubs may be broken as well. To help select a hub, we recommend clicking on the "Calculate hub speed" button. Each hub will be accessed to determine how long it takes to retrieve a web page through it. Higher speed numbers are better.

After hub speeds have been calculated, you will probably see that some of the hubs are broken. You can remove them from the list by clicking on the "Delete broken hubs" button.

When you have chosen the hub you wish to use, click on it in the hubs list.

Hub Information

You can double-click any hub in the hub list to get more information and compute a trace to that hub. For more information, please read the trace article.
